The marketing machine of AKB48 never sleeps. From computer generated amalgamations to appearing in a commercial for Just Dance Wii or opening up their own cafe in Akihabara. Their newest marketing gimmick is quite similar to the one done earlier this summer where distinct physical traits of select AKB48 members were combined to create a fictional AKB48 member Aimi Eguchi.
This time around however, fans will be able to meld their physical traits with those of one of five select AKB48 members to create a virtual love child. The five AKB48 members customers can choose from are: Yuko Oshima, Yuki Kashiwagi, Mariko Shibata, Mayu Watanabe, and Atsuko Maeda.
The service, AKBaby, is intended to draw attention to the launch of the group’s Internet service plan called “AKB Official Net.” Along with internet service, customers will be given access to exclusive AKB48 content and services, they’ll be able to reserve seats to the group’s daily shows in Tokyo ahead of time, and request songs to appear on a greatest hits album. To receive the ¥1,480 per month service, customers will need either optical or ADSL Internet connection provided by NTT East or West.
