[FAQ] Whoa, what? Japan Flix is streaming movies? How does that work?

Posted on by hidden

Since this whole streaming service is so new, we figured you guys would have a whole bunch of questions.

Also, if your questions aren’t answered on this page, leave your question in the comments below the post and we’ll get back to it as soon as possible!

Q. I live in (insert your country’s name here). Can I stream movies through Japan Flix?

A. If your country is Canada or the USA, then yes. Everywhere else, unfortunately no. Right now we only have the rights to rent or sell movies in Canada and the USA. Another thing we’re hoping to change in the future.

Q. How much does it cost to rent a movie or TV show?

A. For TV episodes (working on it!), we’re planning per episode prices of $0.99 for one night and $1.49 for 5 nights. For movies, it’s either $3.99 / $4.99 for one night or $4.99 / $5.99 for 5 nights (depending on if it’s available in HD).

1 days 5 days
TV episode $0.99 $1.49
SD Movie $3.99 $4.99
HD Movie $4.99 $5.99
Special Features Varies* Varies*

*Special features vary in price depending on the quantity and length of the content.

Q. When does a rental expire?

A. Access to the TV episode or movie you rent will always expire at 12 midnight EST. However, you will always get your full 1 day or 5 days that you purchase. So, if you rent a movie for 1 day at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, you will have access to the film for 1 full day (till 1 o’clock the next day) and till midnight that night.

Q. Can I watch what I rent more than once?

A. While you have access to your movie or TV show, you can watch however many times you like!

Q. How good is the video quality?

A. The video quality you experience depends on the quality that the film was shot at, the speed of your internet connection, and the resolution of your monitor.

For films marked “HD,” the films have been shot at full 1080p resolution. “SD” films are in 480p.

To stream the full 1080p resolution, your internet connection must be able to download the video faster than the video is played. This means your connection must be able to download files at a rate of 375 kilobytes per second or 2.9 megabits per second.

But don’t worry if your internet connection can’t handle those speeds. Our video player will fall back to 720p and 480p depending on your connection.

We highly recommend an internet connection that can download at least 185 kilobytes per second or 1.5 megabits per second.

Q. On what devices can I stream Japan Flix titles?

A. Right now, our video player will work on any internet-enabled device with flash. So that means computers, internet-ready TVs, and most Android devices. We’re working hard on getting it to Apple devices as soon as possible!

Q. Is my information safe?

A. YES! Japan Flix does not store credit card information on its servers. We work with trusted payment gateway company Authorize.net, to make sure your information stays safe. So when you choose to save your card with us, what is actually happening is that Authorize.net is saving your info for the next time you want to rent a movie. It’s completely safe and secure!

  1. Awesome! Can’t wait to try that out! Will it work with my credit card though? It wasn’t issued by a US bank; will it still work? (It’s not from Canada either…)
