Rubber Duckie in Osaka

The giant rubber duckie is back!

From October 22 to October 30 the giant duck was at Nakanoshima Park as part of the citywide Aqua Metropolis Osaka 2011.

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman had originally created the piece of art for Osaka in 2009, and the city brought it back for charity late last month.

5,000 replica rubber ducks, 300 limited-design T-shirts, and various clear files, stickers, magnet sheets, and pin badges were sold on the river shore near the giant version for charity.

“The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!” -Florentijn Hofman’s website
