For those of you in the NY/NJ area Friday, April 15th 4-8pm, stop by Columbia University for their annual Matsuri. For the uninitiated, “matsuri” is the Japanese word for “festival.” The Columbia Japan Society holds a matsuri once a year at Low Plaza, the focal point of the campus. There will be a variety of activities for all: Japanese food vendors, commercial vendors, corporate- and club-sponsored booths, musical stage performances, martial arts demonstrations, games and crafts booths, and a final raffle.
It’s a great event for those interested in Japanese culture but afraid to wade in too deep. Matsuri 2011 will be no different than a traditional matsuri experienced throughout Japan by millions of Japanese every year. Attendance is free so come and check it out.
While you’re there experiencing all that Japan has to offer, stop by the Japan Flix booth to say hello and see what we’re about!
