The Japanese Wife Next Door (2004) is outrageous; it’s hilarious; and it’s got the most unbelievable simulated sex scenes you’ll see in film!
Several points stuck in my mind:
First, when you want to see a ridiculous porno with a bunch of friends in a college dorm (something which inevitably happens once during those four years), why see Pirates, which is 2 hours long and always results in awkwardness between friends, when you can see the Japanese Wife, which is so hilarious it speeds by without any time for awkwardness?
Second, one of the unwritten rules of pink film is that there must be 1 sex scene every 15 minutes. Usually, the filmmaker, who wants to make legitimate films, regrettably inserts these scenes in their works of art… But not in Japanese Wife! Mr. Pink, Yutaka Ikejima, doesn’t care about art in this movie! He made every scene lead up to sex. It’s absolutely ridiculous!
Finally, Japanese Wife is actually even more erotic than Japanese AV. To get around the more stringent censor regulations that pink film has than AV, Ikejima used incredible camera angles, prosthetic penises, and almost Austin Powers-like covering tricks. Everything actually fits together quite naturally and makes for what feels more wrong than Japanese porn. Take that censors!
All in all, this film is quite worth the hype. I wouldn’t say that it’s fine art, but it’s one extreme of the pink film genre that better not be missed.
