Last night, a fashion show dedicated to kimonos was held for Tokyo Kimono Week 2011. 500 guests gathered to watch models show off the latest and rare tegaki yuzens and some komon from Tokyo, as well as kimonos from other major kimono-making regions such as Yuki, Tochigi and Oshima, Kagoshima.
Tokyo Kimono Week is an annual event held in Nihonbashi, Tokyo celebrating Japan’s original fashion culture. The event is held in Nihonbashi because it was the center of Edo’s mercantile center during the Edo period and continues the tradition today as one of Tokyo’s premier commercial districts. This year, Tokyo Kimono Week also celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the Nihon Bridge which is Nihonbashi’s namesake.
Tokyo Kimono Week began October 19th and will run through till November 3rd.
